The California State University Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology (CSUPERB) awarded Faculty-Student Collaborative Research Seed Grants program (Seed Grants) to Maria Gallegos and James Murray, both assistant professors of biological sciences.
Seed grants will provide Gallegos and Murray with the resources required not only to successfully compete for follow-on, externally-funded grants, but also to involve Cal State East Bay students in their scholarship and research programs.
Gallegos received $15,000 for her proposed project titled “Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms Driving Mechanosensory Neurite Tiling in C. elegans.” Murray received the same amount for his proposed research titled “Chemical Warfare in the Ocean: How Marine Slugs Prey Upon Toxic Animals.”
